Timişoara v Man. City 0-1

Ballotelli Celebrates Debut Goal

Manchester City didn’t have the best of games this evening in their Europa League Qualifier match against Timişoara only managing two shots on goal one of which was scored by new signing Mario Balotelli on his Manchester City Debut but was later booked for arguing, which with his recent reputation in question doesn’t bode well. Balotelli was brought on for Gareth Barry on the 57 minute. Manchester City fielded a full strength team with Joe Hart in goal again as he is now the no.1 goalie at City, but no James Milner just yet as he is not eligible to play, but other new signings did, but to no real avail. Though they have an away goal, and undoubtedly are going to get through you have to say that only managing two shots on target is not anything to write home about especially when there is near £70million of new signings on show.

Liverpool v Trabzonspor 1-0

Not a great game but a win and no away goal for Trabzonspor is important as Liverpool won 1-0 with a goal from Ryan Babel. Liverpool didn’t field the same team they did against Arsenal with some players being rested and coming into the first team was Fabio Aurelio, Kyrgiakos, Ryan Babel, Poulsen who is making his debut and Martin Kelly. Maxi and Lucas who were brought on against Arsenal also started the game and Torres came on at half time for goal scorer Babel. Joe Cole also missed a penalty which would have help liverpool secure the tie leading into the second leg. interestingly enough Alberto Aquilani wasn’t in the squad but is fit, so could this be the end of his liverpool career?

Rapid Vienna v Aston villa 1-1

Aston kicked off early but they didn’t fare any but like Manchester City did manage to get an away goal but like Manchester City only managed two shots on target. Aston villa thought didn’t have the strongest team out like Man City with rising star Marc Albrighton starting along with youngsters Jonathan Hogg Eric Lichaj. And Aston Villa started of brightly with young midfielder Barry Bannan getting an early goal. Atdhe Nuhiu was a constant threat for Rapid Vienna and when he was finally not caught offside managed to get the equalising goal. Aston Villa should be able to win the second leg at home but they will have to perform better than this and keep close tabs with Nuhiu.
