Sevilla have rejected an from Arsenal but the two clubs are still in negotians with Sevilla holding out for a better offer which is rumoured to be around 8.5million. if Arsenal manage to seal the transfer of the player they were interested in signing a few years ago before he signed for Sevilla it will be a great boost to a squad lacking some central defenders with Gallas, Campbell, Silvestre, Senderos all leaving the club this summer.
Squillaci is an experienced central defender and at 29 is coming into the best years for a defender, and that is something Arsenal need as Vermaelen, Djourou and Koscielny all being under 25 he can bring in some experience to pass on. He has won titles with every club he has played for and has good champions league experience.
When at Monaco Squillaci was unable to establish himself as a regular and was loaned to Ligue 2 side AC Ajaccio, where he became one of their best players and helped the club win promotion to Ligue 1, but Squillaci returned to Monaco in 2002 he established himself as regular helping Monaco finish 2nd in the league and winning the Coupe de la Ligue. The following season saw Monaco go on a great UEFA Champions League run which got them to the final in 2004 losing to Jose Mourinho’s Porto.
In 2006 Squillaci signed for Lyon where he won the League two seasons running and won the Trophée des Champions in 2006 also. Squillaci then moved to Sevilla in 2008 where he helped them qualify for the Champions league and won the Copa del Rey last season.
