Everton 3 – Manchester United 3
Ferguson decided to leave Rooney out of the team with all the media interest but in form Berbatov was up front. but it was Everton who nearly scored first with a free kick that hit the bar, But soon O’Shea had a shot for man u that nearly flew it but hit the frame of the goal . Scholes nearly carried on his goal scoring form this season but Tim Howard managed a brilliant save with his foot after the shot had deflected. Howard again was the saviour keeping out Giggs with a reaction save. Fletcher followed it up but it deflected out for a corner. Which resulted in an Everton goal as the corner came in Distin headed it clear where Cahill chased it and put in a long ball which Evra couldn’t reach and Arteta controlled at ran at goal, but didn’t managed to score as Van Der Sar saved Osman passed it to Pienaar to slot it in. Manchester United equalized with Darren Fletcher scoring a nice goal. Nani whipped n the cross and Fletcher volleyed it with the side of his foot home. The second half saw Manchester united carry on the dominance and soon took the lead, Nani again with the cross but this time it had Vidic’s head at the end of it scoring from in the six yard box. United’s third came from an Everton attack which Neville broke up. an unstylish back heel to Scholes who is not too far away from his own box put in a cross field ball down the pitch to united only man forward Dimitar Berbatov. a nice outside of the boot finish a cool calm finish is what you expect from Berbatov and that is what you got, by 65 minutes it is looking like Man Utd have won but Scholes had a good opportunity to make it 4 but didn’t connect with it and it was a poor poor shot for him and it went sky wards. Everton didn’t give up though and soon saw them have a chance to make it 3-2 but in the end Osman didn’t have enough power in the shot to score and decided to side foot it rather than lace it home. It was a good move that saw Manchester United being sloppy in defence but Everton couldn’t capitalise. Everton did manage to get the second with the ball whipped in Cahill was there to header it home, and then Everton went on the attack again and again another ball was whipped in and again Cahill connected with it but this time it was to knock it down for Arteta who smashed it home. But the drama didn’t stop there. As when time was nearly up man u got a corner which the referee let go on and Everton went on the attack and almost won the game. But as the final whistle went David Moyes stormed on the pitch to argue with the referee as it seems he may have blown for full time before that attack finished. Either way it was a dramatic game where twice a spell of four minutes defined the game. 2 minutes before and after the half for man Utd and the last 2 minutes for Everton at the end. This is the beauty of football that some people in the world don’t have the pleasure to understand.
Newcastle United 0 – Blackpool 2
Both teams have had a great start to the Premiership this season. This being a return for Newcastle and for Blackpool it is a debut. Blackpool goalkeeper Matthew Gilks had a great game keeping out Newcastle at every turn. Harper put in another solid performance for Newcastle that Newcastle fans are used to. But he was unable to keep out Blackpool’s opener. Charlie Adam converted a penalty that was given for the foul on Varney by Alan Smith. With the goal celebration they paid tribute to one of the staff, Gary Parkinson, at Blackpool who is very ill. Newcastle were still on the attack with Andy Carroll again being a constant threat as he had been all game. If it were not for Gilks Carroll could have bagged himself a hat trick if not more. But with all the attacking coming from Newcastle it left them selves open to a counter attack and that’s what happened with Charlie Adam taking the ball forward and laying it off to DJ Campbell who used his quick feet to make space and finished well to get his first premiership goal for Blackpool. Gilks no doubt won them the game today, as important as goals are clean sheets.
West Ham 1 Chelsea 3
Paolo Di Canio was in the crowd and was the last West Ham player to score a winning goal against Chelsea, though they still went down that season. And in regards to relegation things already don’t look got for West Ham. And the start of the game went Chelsea’s way after 2 minutes Chelsea had a corner and from that Essien got his first goal of the season. He was totally free to header home and after 2 minutes that doesn’t bode well for the rest f the game. Chelsea’s second goal game from Drogba long range free kick which was spilt by Green when it seemed to be easy enough to gather up and when Upson went to clear it, it ricocheted off Kalou to bounce over green into an empty net. On loan striker Obinna had a chance but he wasn’t able to finish but it gave promise as Chelsea seemed to turn off which lead to west ham having some dominance in the game. Chelsea almost scored a third with John Obi Mikel who from a corner shot and it hit the corner of the goal. The second half wasn’t much different as Kalou had a chance with a curling shot but was just wide. But Essien again with his head made it 3 on the 83rd minute. 2 minutes later West ham got a corner which Cech came for and punched out, but it went straight to parker where it just seemed to drop to his foot where he delightfully put in a looping shot that went over everybody in the box including Cech and landed right in the bottom corner of the goal. Perfection. but unlike Everton they were not able to rally round and get two more though Piquionne had a marvellous chance but somehow managed to head the ball onto the cross bar. Chelsea had the chances to have another game with five goals but didn’t take them. And west ham now go four games without a win, maybe west ham should have stuck with Zola.
Arsenal 4- Bolton 1
Bolton have in goal young Hungarian goalkeeper Bodgan as Jaaskelainen is suspended. Arsenal started the game brightly and Rosicky seems to be fitting some top form and if he stay injury free could be a huge contributor to arsenal this season. Rosicky put a through ball from the middle of the park with the outside of his boot for Arshavin to run onto , and maybe Arshavin could have done better with the finish but Bogdan stayed firm. Arsenal had the majority of possession and their opening goal came from a ball in by Wilshire which Fabregas flicked on and new signing Koscielny scored. Arshavin again had chances to score but was unable to do enough. but soon after the new partnership in defence of Squillaci and Koscielny saw some jitters and goal scorer Koscielny poor header back lead to Bolton equalizer with le, who was a constant threat, crossed it for Elmander. In the 2nd half Bolton looked as if they were going to score but a good save from Almunia isn’t what denied them but it was the offside flag, but arsenals defence seemed to be asleep through it all. But straight from that arsenal went on the attack with Fabregas putting Chamakh through but Bogdan again with a good save resulting in a corner. Fabregas took the corner and when it was cleared it went to Arshavin who held it up before giving it back to Fabregas who ran with it to the by-line and then crossing it in for Chamakh who scored with a header in the side yard box. Not a trademark goal for arsenal, but one that is needed in their armoury. Lee, again being the main threat for Bolton, should have got a free kick when song tripped him but the referee played on for only second later when Chamakh was fouled by Cahill gave the foul and gave Cahill a straight red card. Harsh isn’t enough of a word to convey how that was, and another game for Bolton where a suspension will be incurred. With Bolton down to 10men arsenal were able to stamp their superiority even more so. And with arsenal 3rd scored by song it also made for a landmark as it was the 1000th goal scored in the premiership under Arsène Wenger. Song, with his new blonde hair, won the ball in his won half and drove in to the middle of the field before laying it off to Fabregas who gave it to Arshavin who made a good diagonal run into the box as he then passed it to song who controlled it past the defender and then deliberately chipped it over Bogdan to score a great goal. Arsenals fourth was a great team effort. Something that epitomises Wenger’s way ball retention, good ball control and calm finishing. With 26 passes with the final one being a chipped pass by Fabregas which was calmly finished by vela, who was brought on as a sub, with a first time shot.
Wigan 1 – Sunderland 1
Wigan haven’t had the best start to the season and at home haven’t yet managed a goal or a point at home, but today they seemed to be on a mission to change that and Diame had the chance to give them the opener when Boselli headed the ball down to him. Lee Cattermole who came back from suspension today didn’t take long to get himself in the book even though it seemed harsh, but the Wigan fans jeered him the same after he signed for Sunderland from them. And on the 22nd minute he brought down Rodallega on the edge of the box to receive his second yellow. Not the best start to a game being sent off 22minutes in and having to serve another suspension. The first came to an end with more tackles and yellow cards being show and with the second half Steve Bruce decided to bring in new signing Asamoah Gyan for Danny Wellbeck but it was still Wigan that was leading the line with Rodallega causing trouble for the Sunderland goalkeeper Mignolet. Boselli had his chances but couldn’t find the net and Di Santo was brought on for Thomas and N’Zogbia for Stam to help in the attack. With Wigan on the attack it seemed certain that they were going to finally score this season at home but it was Sunderland who stuck with debutant Asamoah Gyan volleying home Henderson’s cross. Al Habsi didn’t look like he had much of a chance to save that. Not long after it seemed certain that Gyan would score again but this time not keeping any composure put it well wide Boselli again had a great chance to score but again put it wide. Di Santo crossed it for Boselli and with the goal open it seemed easy to score, but still he waits. Boselli was replaced with on loan Cleverley whose shot was redirected by Alcaraz and finally gave Wigan their first home goal of the season and their first home point. Boselli may feel that he could have contributed more with a goal or two, he may have been prolific in the South American leagues but the premiership goal is still allusive
West Brom 1 – Tottenham 1
Tottenham started the game brightly and Garth Bale continued his good start to the season and ran west Brom around all day. Bale put in a cross for Modric who just flicked it over and showed what was to come but West Brom didn’t seem to take notice Van der Vaart also showed Tottenham fans what he can do as he delightfully back heeled to Lennon who should have done better as he screwed his shot wide. Van der Vaart cross didn’t reach Pavlyuchenko and bounced of Tamas and Modric scored from 10 yards with a low drive. But unfortunately five minutes later Modric went off injured and was replaced by Kranjcar. Tottenham were running the show but then against the run of play Brunt equalized on the 41st minutes. Cudicini punched out the shot from Marc Antoine-Fortune but the ball looped up in the air and Odemwingie got a touch before Brunt headed home from close range. Odemwingie was a constant threat for West Brom and Cudicini kept him out.
Tottenham began the second half the same as the first with Bale again attacking from the left causing a threat time after time. Odemwingie was the main threat for West Brom. Tom Huddlestone had two chances to score but didn’t manage to keep them on target. In the dying seconds Tamas shot wide from 12 yards out when he really he should have scored.
Manchester City 1 – Blackburn Rovers 1
City started off the attacking side and when Milner gave the ball to Johnson and he cut inside at pace, which is becoming a trademark for him, before unleashing a shot that Robinson did well to block. Man City kept attacking but just couldn’t score. Tevez put Wright-Phillips through but he put it wide and then Tevez made Robinson do his job and make a save and Johnson found the wrong side of the post. City kept pushing for a goal and this time it was Kompany that went close but couldn’t score. And against the run of play and down to a goalkeeping error from young Joe Hart, a real learning curve, as he ran out when it seemed that Kolo Toure had the long ball from Pederson covered and Kalinic took advantage and scored a simple tap-in. Mame Biram Diouf almost scored but was unable to get a clean shot away. City keep on with their attacking football now looking for an equalizer and Johnson smashed in a shot but Robinson stood tall. But finally they got the goal they had pushed for when Vieira and Tevez played a nice one-two, no one picked up Vieira and he scored from close range. Tevez twice had the opportunity but both were cleared. In the end Robinson kept Blackburn in the games making save after save, continued his good work by turning away a powerful shot from Barry. It ended 1-1 but it seems as if City should have taken this one and if Manchester City want to compete for the title or even top four status they need to start doing better at home.
Fulham 2 – Wolves 1
Mark Hughes still hadn’t managed to get a win at home and wolves have had a good start to the season and started the game the better team. Fulham had a penalty shout turned down and with that wolves went on the attack and Kevin Doyle crossed but Pantsil missed it and Jelle van Damme who went unmarked at the far post put it away. Bobby Zamora then went down injured as he well awkwardly from the tackle by Karl Henry and was taken to hospital with a broken ankle and seems to be out for a large part of the season. But Fulham didn’t let that dent their intentions as now they were pushing for goals as Pantsil headed over trying to make up for the earlier mistake and Danny Murphy was dangerous from set pieces. The Referee didn’t have the best of games with more tackles going unpunished and at half time the Fulham fans let him know what they thought of him with boo’s ringing out. In the second half Fulham continued to pile on the pressure and summer signing Dembele got the equalizer that Fulham deserved. Stephen Kelly crossed in but Gera was unable to control but Dembele showed good feet and moved the ball to a shooting position and toe poked it home into the bottom left hand corner. Marcus Hahnemann brought down Davies and American got nowhere near the ball but still no penalty. The referee gave out a string of yellow cards and Berra is not going to want to remember this match, and I’m sure Mick McCarthy had some strong words with him too, as after picking up a yellow card he then brought down Eddie Johnson on the 90th minute. Dembele took the free-kick and drilled the ball into the bottom corner giving Fulham the win and handed Hughes his first win at Craven Cottage.
