Bayern 2 – Roma 0
A goalless first half came to an end with boo’s from the home fans, unhappy with the performance but the second half saw two late goals give Bayern the win. Goals from Thomas Mueller who is continuing on from last season and the world cup and Klose, who didn’t have a great season for Bayern last year but had another good world cup and like Mueller has carried on that form.
CFR Cluj 2 – Basel 1
two early goals from Rada and Traoré gave Cluj the platform for their victory tonight. Basel got a goal just before the end of the first half with Stocker scoring, but Cluj didn’t concede or score any more as the game ended 2-1.
Marseille 0 – Spartak Moscow 1
Azpilicueta OG gave Spartak Moscow the victory late on in the game. Against the run of play, with Marseille hitting the post, being wasteful in front of goal and the Spartak Moscow goalie doing all he could, Marseille will feel hard done by.
MŠK Žilina 1 – Chelsea 4
High scoring Chelsea have continued to bang in the goals as they won 4-1. Essien got on the score sheet two games running opening the scoring on the 13th min. Anelka Struck twice in close succession before Sturridge got his first CL goal. A deep cross was Cech’s undoing as he missed it and in all fairness it didn’t seem like he needed to go for it and it bounced off Ivanoic and then Alex going goalwards for Oravec who was steaming forward to make sure it went in. Nothing more than a consolation goal but first timers Žilina will be happy with a goal and although they lost 4-1 can be proud with the chances they created.
Real Madrid 2 – Ajax 0
Jose Mourinho’s home record is still intact tonight as Madrid beat Ajax 2-0 thanks to goals from Gonzalo Higuaín and an own goal by Vurnon Anita. Anita own goal gave Real the lead and Higuaín put the game past Ajax with Ozil’s shot saved he then squared the ball to Higuaín to score. Real could have won but a much bigger margin but poor finishing and great goalkeeping meant that didn’t happen. back in 1996 Ajax gave Real Madrid a masterclass in football and tonight Real repaid the favour in kind.
AC Milan 2 – Auxerre 0
Two goals from new signing Ibrahimovic gave Milan the victory over the French side. within 4 minutes the game went from 0-0 to 2-0 with Ibrahimovic scoring two but without Ronaldinho’s influence would have come of this game. AC Milan – Real Madrid is looking to be a tasty affair but that is going to have to wait as the next test for Milan is Auxerre.
Arsenal 6 – Braga 0
Arsenal were at their best tonight as they beat Braga 6-0. With two goals from Fabregas, two goals from substitute Vela and Arshavin and Chamakh Arsenal tore Braga apart. Young starlet Wilshire’s beautiful backheel gave Chamakh the chance to score and Arshavin who was hit and miss still managed to assist and score tonight and put in a good performance but their wasn’t just one stand out performance but the whole team played at their best tonight.
Shakhtar Donetsk 1 – Partizan 0
A goal from Shakhtar captain Srna gave them the home victory over Partizan. A game that saw Shakhtar have majority of the possession was close with only one goal being scored and not much difference in the shot at goal from either side. One thing is for sure, if in Partizans next match they let the team have that much possession they will be made to pay, as they have free scoring Arsenal coming their way next.
