So with the January transfer window now closed and after the drama and excitement of yesterday over, who did the best deals and worst deals?
Arsenal – N/A
IN. Ryo Miyaichi has joined the club from Chūkyōdai Chūkyō High School. Yes Wenger has signed a player that has never played for a professional club but has signed a player straight from High School! can’t really comment him because of that.
OUT. As per usual players have gone out on loan to get experience or playing time. Carlos Vela has gone to West Brom, and a host of reserve and youth players have gone to domestic and European clubs. Ryo Miyaichi has also gone out on loan to Dutch club Feyenoord for some much needed experience.
Aston Villa 7/10
IN. Starting with the big one Darren Bent for £24 million is expensive but if he scores the goals Villa need then it is worth it. Jean Makoun from Lyon for £6 million and Micheal Bradley from Borussia Monchengladbach on loan will bulk up the midfield, and Kyle Walker on loan from Tottenham for some cover.
OUT. Steve Sidwell has gone out to Fulham on loan as has Stephen Ireland. John Carew has gone out on loan also but to Stoke City making way for Darren Bent, and Curtis Davies has been sold to Birmingham.
Birmingham City 7/10
IN. Obafemi Martins has come in on loan to give some extra fire power, while David Bentley is brought in on loan to create more chances for the team. Curtis Davies has been brought from rivals Aston Villa to help out in defence.
OUT. A few players out on loan, but no major transfers. Alex McLeish is wanting to improve the current squad he has.
Blackburn Rovers 7/10
IN. Rovers return for Roque Santa Cruz. Back to Blackburn on loan from Manchester City but will he be able to get the goals he did before? The attacking playmaker Mauro Formica has been brought from Newell’s Old Boys and for £3.5 million could be a steal. Jermaine Jones has come in on loan to hustle and bustle the midfield and Reuben Rochina has been brought from Barcelona, Playing mainly for Barcelona “B” team but anyone coming from Barca is going to come with a reputation regardless of their quality.
OUT. El-Hadji Diouf has gone to Rangers on loan for the rest of the season and Pascal Chimbonda has left the club and subsequently signed for Queens Park Rangers.
IN. Ian Holloway has been busy this January transfer window brings in players and not having any leave. In came James Beattie from Rangers, Sergei Kornilenko, Jason Puncheon on loan. Andy Reid was brought for £1 million and Salaheddine Sbai for an undisclosed fee.
OUT. A few on loan but importantly for Blackpool fans Charlie Adam didn’t go anywhere!
IN. Not a lot of activity for at Bolton, but in comes Daniel Sturrdige and David Wheater. Wheater may be seen as a future replacement for Cahill and Sturridge is there for his pace, and to makes chances and score goals.
OUT. Riga Mustapha’s contract was cancelled.
IN. Well not much to talk about here expect for the sensational transfer of Fernando Torres £50 million and David Luis coming in for £17 million. Chelsea’s havent spent this kind of money for a few years and people are much more used to it being Manchester City but not this January.
OUT. Some players have gone out on loans to gain experience with Daniel Sturridge, Patrick Van Aanholt out to Bolton and Leicester City.
IN. Nothing to report home about there.
OUT. Steven Pienaar has left Everton for North London side Tottenham. Will Everton suffer not getting in a replacement for the versatile midfielder, i think they might.
IN. Steve Sidwell has come in on loan as has Eidur Gudjohnsen and Gael Kakuta.
OUT. Eddie Johnson and Fredrik Stoor have left the club with Johnson out on loan and Stoor sold to Valerenga.
IN. Two big signings for Liverpool see Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll join the club for £57.8 million. Torres’ £50 million paid for most of that, so looking at the bigger picture, two players for the price of one, one player who can cause problems in the air and another who can cause trouble in all the other attacking areas it’s not a bad deal. If the could have also got Charlie Adam then Carroll would have had balls from the left, and balls from the right thanks to Gerrard.
As mention Fernando Torres for £5o million and Ryan Babel has been sold to Hoffenheim for £6 million. Paul Konchesky out on loan to Nottingham Forest as has Stephen Darby has gone out on loan to gain experience.
Manchester City 8/10
IN. Edin Dzeko for £27 million and that’s it which is surprising for most of the British media who have come accustom to City spending big at every opportunity.
OUT. Adebayor has been shipped of to Real Madrid as he is surplus to requirements as is Santa Cruz and Wayne Bridge.
Manchester United 5/10
IN. Andres Lindegaard has been brought in but is he a replacement for Van der Sar? Time will tell on that.
OUT. Players have gone out on loan to gain experience, which is standard practice but Federico Macheda is the most high-profile player to be leaving on loan joining Sampdoria and with the Italian side selling their main striker Pazzini he should be getting some playing time.
Newcastle United 6/10
IN. Newcastle have made the loan signing of Ben Arfa a permanent one, It;s just a shame he is still injured. Stephen Ireland has come in on loan, but Newcastle were unable to get a striker in.
OUT. Andy Carroll has signed for Liverpool for a club Record of £35 million. Fans will be hoping top see that well spent next season, and hope they will still be in the Premiership at the end of it. Xisco has gone out on loan, that deal was done before Carroll’s and maybe they would have kept him if they knew, but maybe not as since his arrival in 2008 he hasn’t been a success. Wayne Routledge, Tamas Kadar and Ryan Donaldson also go out on loan.
Stoke City 6/10
IN. Jermaine Pennant’s loan deal has been made permanent for £1.7 million. John Carew has come in on loan to add to the towering strike force at Stoke City.
OUT. Tuncay Sanil has left for Wolfsburg who he has wanted to play for some time, so he is happy with that, and Tony Pulis has had nothing bad to say about him. Gudjohnsen has gone to Fulham and Liam Lawrence’s loan is now a full transfer for an undisclosed fee to Portsmouth.
IN. Sulley Muntari has joined Sunderland from Inter Milan on loan untill the end of the season and Sessegnon from Paris St. Germain has been signed for £6 million. Both are strong midfielders with no fear to get forward who should fit in to Steve Bruce’s team with no problem.
OUT. Darren Bent out for £18 million and his goals will be missed but the two new signings should help out with a few goals. Andy Reid has gone to Blackpool for £1 million and Da Silva has left for Real Zaragoza for an undisclosed fee.
IN. Steven Pienaar is a great signing, but that was it from Harry Redknapp and Tottenham. They were linked with players and had bids rejected and missed out on Charlie Adam right at the death, so just the one player in this transfer window.
OUT. Lots of players out on loan with David Bentley, Robbie Keane, Jamie O’Hara, Kyle Walker and Giovanni Dos Santos leaving for playing time, but no permanent signings out of White Hart Lane.
West Brom 6/10
IN. Carlos Vela comes in on loan from Arsenal for the rest of the season. A deal that could work well for both parties involved, as Vela will get games and the Baggies get a tricky striker.
OUT. a few players have left on loan but no first teamers’ have left the club on loan or permanent deals.
West Ham 8/10
IN. West Ham have been busy this transfer window showing their intent on staying up this season with a whole host of players coming in. Wayne Bridge from Manchester City, Robbie Keane from Tottenham have come in on loan while they have signed Gary O’Neil from Middlesbrough and Demba Ba has come in from Hoffenheim. If they can gel with the team they have a good chance so staying up this season.
OUT. Behrami has gone back to Italy with Firoentina signing him, and that’s it. West Ham really don’t want to be a selling club any more, well not this transfer window it seems anyway.
Wigan – N/A
IN. Conor Sammon has come in for Kilmarnock at the death of the transfer window, but not much else went on with transfer in at Wigan.
OUT. Boselli has gone to Genoa out on loan and that may turn into a permanent deal if that goes well. Wigan had rejected a late bid by Newcastle for N’Zogbia rumoured to be around £10-12 million.
Wolves – N/A
IN.Like at Wigan and Arsenal not much activity here, Jamie O’Hara has come in on loan and that’s it.
OUT. Andrew Keogh has gone on loan to Cardiff City. Mick McCarthy didn’t seem to enter the hysterics that January brings.
