Well what a day of football we all got to see today! 41 goals scored, 7 by penalties. With early goals, comebacks and shocks a plenty, today was truly a dramatic day.
It all started with the early kick off where you didn’t have to wait long for a goal as after 2 mins Richardson put Sunderland ahead. John Carew equalized for Stoke, but Asamoah Gyan made it 2-1. Stoke didn’t give up and won the game with two late goals from Huth on the 83rd & 90th minute!
Aston Villa and Fulham drew 2-2 with Villa taking the early lead with an own goal from Pantsil, who isn’t having much luck as of late. Andy Johnson got the equalizer for Fulham, but in the second half Walker put Villa back in the lead but it only lasted 6 minutes as Dempsey got the goal to draw the match.
Everton went goal crazy today beating Blackpool 5-3 with Louis Saha getting 4 goals today and Jermain Beckford bagging one for himself. Blackpool got themselves back to 1-1 and then took the lead 2-1 but just couldn’t keep the lead. Baptiste got the first goal for Blackpool making it 1-1, then Puncheon made it 2-2 with Charlie Adam making it 3-2. Ian Holloway will undoubtably be unhappy not keeping another lead in the Premiership.
Manchester City kept up their pressure for a chance at the title winning 3-0 against West Brom with Tevez getting a hat-trick with the help of two penalties. If Tevez isn’t happy at the club his on pitch performances wouldn’t show that, but its scary to think what he could accomplish with City if he was playing happy.
the match between Newcastle and Arsenal played more like a Shakespeare play than a football match with it’s beauty, comedy and being filled with drama. within 10 minutes Arsenal were 3-0 up and some Newcastle fans were leaving, while Arsenal fans were reveling in the football they were seeing and by half-time it was 4-0 and Arsenal fans must have thought the same as Newcastle fans, mind you from different perspectives, just how many goals are Arsenal going to score today, Even the commentators were saying that surly Arsenal have this game won now at 4-0. Walcott started the scoring within the 1st minute, Djourou got the second on the 3rd and then Van Perise on the 10th and 26th made it 4 and then 4.The second half saw Diaby get sent off for his tussle with Joey Barton and Barton score two penalties. Leon Best made it 4-2 when Barton scored his second of the game. But the best goal came from Tiote on the 87 minute. Newcastle fans were ecstatic were Arsenal fans were left angry and bemused. What a game for all neutrals and Newcastle fans. Arsenal fans will be left to rue the missed points as will Arsene Wenger as that would have seen the move within two points of United.
More drama on this saturday came at White Hart Lane where after 6 minutes Van der Vaart gave Spurs the lead scoring from the penalty spot. Only minute later Tottenham were awarded another penalty which Van der Vaart scored again, but referee Mark Clattenburg disallowed it for infringement but Van der Vaart wasn’t able to score like before. Daniel Sturridge scored his second goal in his second game for Bolton to take it to 1-1 but Tottenham left it late again to get the winner with substitute Niko Krancjar scoring in injury time.
On any other day this probably would have been the most talked about game of the day, but with United losing to Wolves and Arsenal throwing away a four goal lead it shares the headlines for an amazing weekend of football. Blackburn took the lead with Roberts scoring on the 23rd minute. Wigan equalized with a goal from McCarthy on the 35th and then on the 50th Rodallega gave Wigan the lead, then on the 56th min McCarthy made it 3-1. Samba got a goal back 2 minutes later to get it back to 3-2 but then a penalty to Wigan which Watson scored restored Wigan’s two goal lead. Dunn then scored a penalty for Blackburn on the 81st but Blackburn just were not able to get the equalizer to make it 4-4.
Manchester United have finally been beaten today and their slayers are the valiant Wolverhampton Wanderers. United took the lead early with Nani scoring on the 3rd minute, but Wolves didn’t give up thinking the game would be lost as 7 minutes later Elokobi made it 1-1. Wolves then took the lead 5 minutes before half-time with Kevin Doyle scoring only his 2nd goal of the season. It may only to his second, but may well be his most important goal he will score this season as even though they are still bottom of the league they are on equal points with West Ham and Birmingham and keeps them close with the rest of the relegation pack.
