With a whole host of players withdrawing from their call-ups and with so many injuries in the past that have happened its understandable that managers don’t want their best players playing in games that mean nothing. But is playing for your country whether it’s for a world cup, european championship, a qualifier or just a friendly shouldnt there be pride in being selected and playing for your country.

With many football fans left disappointed with the performances from England and many losing interest in the international game taking more interest in the Champions League, are these midweek international games a waste? or would this time be better used to have a international training camp or just a general rest?

Mangers in the past have spoken out before for their dislike for these midweek international friendlies and with the injuries that have occurred before in the past managers and fans alike are left frustrated that it is going to affect their clubs performances in the league in which every game is vital.

England players that have withdrawn out of the game against Denmark are; Gabriel Agbonlahor with no replacement,Peter Crouch who has been replaced by Carlton Cole, Ben Foster who has been replaced by Robert Green and Steven Gerrard with no replacement.

This has given a headache to Capello to who will captain the side, but with Terry still in the squad, for the sake of this one match I don’t think there would be any kind of outrage. BUt with talk of maybe Wayne Rooney being captain its obvious Capello isn’t going to take that chance.

Three key players have withdrawn from the Netherlands squad for the game against Austria on Wednesday with Robin van Persie pulling due to “flu” so Dutch coach Bert van Marwijk called up FC Twente Luuk de Jong in replacement of van Persie. Rafael van der Vaart and Nigel de Jong also withdrew with no replacement. Arsenal fans will be happy seeing van Persie not playing after just coming back to fitness from his injuries, as they worry every time he plays that he may be injured again. Fabregas also has pulled out of the Spain squad to face Columbia with no replacement.
