7 Barcelona, 5 Real Madrid,3 Villarreal, 1 Manchester City, 1 Liverpool, 1 Athetico Bilbao & 1 Sevilla may already show that is the case, but will Pedro play? Will Busquets play?
With the quality of football coming from Barcelona at the moment with them on a 16 game winning streak would it not be worth seeing how well that will translate into the national team. Of course a majority of the team is already Barcelona, look at the spanish side that won the World Cup, Iker Casillas in goal, Sergio Ramos, Gerard Pique, Carlos Puyol & Joan Capdevila in defense ;Xavi, Xabi Alonso and Sergio Busquets in midfield with Pedro, Andres Iniesta and David Villa in attack. Jesus Navas, Cesc Fabregas and Fernando Torres came on for Pedro, Alonso and Villa. David since then has joined Barça, and has fitted in brilliantly. Puyol is injured for this friendly so wont be playing, that leaves Pique the only Barcelona defender, and no one doubts that Casillas is the Spanish number 1, but if Puyol and Pique were to play then the understanding with Víctor Valdés would be beneficial. Also with Barcelona midfield being Xavi, Iniesta and Busqets that trio know how and when to move, to pass, to cover, and if Villa plays on the left and Pedro on the right, you would have 5 out of 6 players in the attack that play week in week out with each other. Now, Spain may not have their own Lionel Messi, but there is Fernando Llorente and Fernando Torres. They maybe two different players to Messi and two different players in comparison to each other, but they are good strikers. Torres may not be the striker he was of a year or two ago but he still can score goes. Llorente is much more of an areal precence something that Barcelona don’t really use. But what they could do is use David Silva in the centre as an advanced playmaker, Silva has the dribbling ability and can score goals and would be able to link up well with David Villa. The defense, with Casillas in goal could well be Madrid based with Pique, but with Madrid leaking goals, maybe that wouldn’t be the best idea. There could well be Villarreal’s Marchena and Capdevila along with Sergio Ramos and Piqué. But with Barcelona scoring freely, it would be best to have the attacking side of the team be the same as the one the one Barcelona used, just substituting someone for Messi, which obviously is easier said than done.
