Ronaldo has retired at the age of 34 saying he has “given into his body”. In an interview in the Estado de Sao Paulo newspaper he said “I can’t take any more,” “I wanted to continue, but I can’t do it any more. I think of an action, but I can’t do it the way I want to. It’s time.”
On Globo television he said “It’s the body that’s hurting me,” “The head wants to go on, but the body can’t take any more.”
Ronaldo had earlier in the season said he was thinking of retiring at the end of the year, but with injuries and elimination from Copa Libertadores with current club Corinthians he has decdied to now rather than later.
In 515 club appearances he scored 352 goals, with 62 goals in 97 international appearances. In the World Cup he made 19 appearances scoring 15 goals.
Words can’t give justice to what Ronaldo was to the world of football and the art of scoring goals, but thankfully to the world of YouTube and User palkogabor there is a brilliant set of videos to go and check out.
