It seems Claudio Ranieri will be appointed manger of Inter Milan, and although he is a good manager, I am surprised that they haven’t given Luciano Spalletti a call.
Both managers have managed Roma at one time, actually Ranieri came in when Spalletti left. Ranieri steadied the ship and got Roma in a great position and only finished 2 points behind Inter in the league to finish 2nd.
Ranieri had a good spell at Chelsea, but as unable to win any trophies. He has won trophies though, but not many major honours, the Copa del Rey being the biggest with Valencia his first team round before he managed Chelsea. He has also won the Coppa Italia with Fiorentina who he also won promotion with. In his second term with Valencia he also won the UEFA Super Cup in 2004.
Spalletti doesn’t have many more major honours to boast but did also had a good spell at Roma, doing well with the limitations he had. He won the Coppa Italia twice and the Supercoppa Italia all with Roma, interestingly enough all three were against Inter Milan with Roberto Mancini in charge. Spalletti left Roma and 3 months later was appointed Zenit St. Petersburg manager and in his first full season won the league and the cup and then also the Russian Super Cup in 2011.
Spalletti for me has a better record, a good European record, and is a strong personality that will be able to deal with the players at Inter Milan.
