So David Beckham will not be in the Team GB squad for the Olympics, how do we feel about this?
Personally I would have wanted Beckham to be there. Not just because he would be great for the competition and the London Olympics but because he would still be able to add strength, depth and experience to the Team GB squad.
I can understand where some people are coming from when they say Pearce was right to leave out Beckham if he feels England have a better chance of winning it without him, but I don’t believe they stand a better chance without with than if they had him in the squad. Would he be playing every minute of every game, no, but he would add so much to the squad along with the likes of Beckham and Bellamy, if they are being included also.
I do feel for Beckham, as I do believe that there is room for “politics” and football here and with all that he has done with Lord Coe and co. that Beckham not being there is somewhat of a faux pas on Pearce’s part.
The exclusion of Beckham has split opinion with fans, ex-footballers and Journalists a like all having their opinion.Robbie Savage @RobbieSavage8 Stuart Pearce likes to be controversial , his managerial record is poor no wonder with the decisions he makes ! Henry Winter @henrywinter Pearce’s logic founders on having included #Beckham in his provisional lists for Team GB. Becks deserved more respect Matt Lawton @Matt_Lawton_DM Don’t often agree with Stuart Pearce but he’s right to leave out Beckham. What would be the point?
Here is what David Beckham had to say about his omission.
“Naturally I am very disappointed, but there will be no bigger supporter of the team than me. And like everyone, I will be hoping they can win the gold.”
“As a Londoner, I will have been really proud to have played a small part in bringing the Olympics to my home town”
“I can’t wait for the games to begin and enjoy every moment along with the rest of Great Britain.”
For what people say about Beckham when they mock him, when it comes to speaking on disappointment he always holds himself well and comes away with a high degree of dignity
