After winning the European Championships you would think that the country would be happy with that, but it seems that they will have even more to cheer about in the next coming weeks. Just looking at the squad it is very hard to see where team GB could compete with them, or any other team for that matter. Maybe apart from Brazil. But surely that is only more evidence that England have a real problem for the future, even more so than the present.
The final 18 may not have yet been decided, but in Spain’s provisional squad they boast a wealth of talent, along with newly European Champions winners Juan Mata, Jordi Alba and Javi Martinez. Fours players from this squad will miss out on the Olympics, and it may be Jordi Alba after his heavy involvement of the Euro’s where as Juan Mata had minutes of play, still managing to score though, and Javi Martinez didn’t feature at all. So those two could well be in contention.
Anyone that gets to see Spain during these Olympic Games will be seeing the future of Spain. Thiago, Herrera, Muniain, Romeu, Martinez, Azpilicueta, Tello and Adrian are all full capable of making it to the next Euro’s with some of those mentioned possibly going to the next World Cup. Can the same be said for the English players that feature for Team GB? Not many.
Here is the 22-man Squad.
