The draw for the Europa League play-off took place earlier today with Newcastle United drawn against Greek side Atromitos FC and Liverpool were drawn against Scottish club Hearts.

Both Newcastle United and Liverpool should be able to beat Atromitos FC and Hearts receptively and qualify for the Europa League group stages. Newcastle will be looking for a good run in the Europa League and if they were able to win the Europa League it would be a huge boost finically but also boost their reputation and help bring in bigger and better players to the club. Debuchy has been linked with a move to Newcastle but that has yet to materialize and the transfer they have done are more investments for the future more than players that are going to make an impact right away.

Under Kenny Dalglish it seemed that Liverpool didn’t think much of the Europa League, almost as if it was beneath the club, but now under the management of Brendan Rodgers Liverpool will be looking to win the competition and claim yet another European trophy for the club, but also for win one for himself.

Winning the Europa League would be a huge ask, but a great accomplishment for either of the English clubs as the competition has some big clubs involved with Anzhi Makhachkala, Athletic Bilbao, Marseille, Lazio, Sporting, CSKA Moscow and Inter Milan. That doesn’t include the teams that don’t qualify for the Champions league. Either Braga or Udinese will join that list, as will either Spartak Moscow and Fenerbahçe and Borussia Mönchengladbach or Dynamo Kyiv. Lille could also join them if they lose against FC København.

All I will ne hoping for is another great Europa League like he had last season.
