It has gone eleven o’clock and we all know what that means. Yes the transfer window has closed and that’s it until January!
So the transfer window has shut, and although it may not have been the most exciting, it did hold some big transfers. Clint Dempsey didn’t get his move to Liverpool but did leave Fulham ending up at Tottenham. Tottenham were one of the bigger spenders of Deadline Day buying French number 1 keeper Hugo Lloris from Lyon as well as the American attacker but did also lose Dutch international Rafael Van der Vaart as he rejoined former club Hamburg. Leaving Tottenham on Deadline day also was Giovanni Dos Santos joining Real Mallorca as well as Danny Rose joining Sunderland on a season long loan. Deadline Day was not just filled with transfer news from Tottenham as Fulham themselves were busy as they signed Dimitar Berbatov from Manchester United for £4m and Kieran Richardson from Sunderland.
Manchester United may not have been busy today but their rivals Manchester City were. Nigel de Jong left the club joining AC Milan but they saw Javi Garcia come in as well as Richard Wright, yes Richard Wright!, and Maicon from Inter Milan. They also signed defender Matija Nastasic from Fiorentina with Savic going the opposite way. Brendan Rogers had hoped that he would have signed a few players today, but in the end the Liverpool manager only saw players leaving the club with Charlie Adam signing for Stoke and Jay Spearing joining Bolton Wanderers on loan but more importantly Andy Carroll, the £35 million man, went on loan to West Ham. The Hammers sealed the move early in the morning but then waited until the end of the night to bring in ex player Yossi Benayoun. QPR continued their current trend for signings players by signing their twelfth new player with Stephane Mbia signing from Marseille with Joey Barton heading to Marseille on loan. Southampton didn’t hold back on the final day of the window as they broke their transfer record to sign Gaston Ramirez from Bologna for a reported £12 million.
Arsenal only saw players leaves the Emirates with Nicklas Bendtner and Ju-Young Park leaving on loan with the Dane joining Italian champions Juventus and The South Korean heading to Spain with Celta Vigo. Stoke on the other hand did see players joining the club. As mention beforez joined Stoke and he was accompanied by Blackburn Rovers enforcer Steven N’Zonzi and Glasgow Rangers American midfielder Maurice Edu. One of the shock moves of the Deadline Day was that of Michael Essien going on loan to Real Madrid where he will work with former boss Jose Mourinho again. There had been rumours of a possible move on loan to Arsenal, but when they didn’t look like it was happening, no one saw the Ghanaian heading to Spain with Real Madrid. Swansea’s Michael Laudrup also pulled another one out of the bag with the signing of Pablo Hernandez from Valencia for a new club record £5.5 million.
It may not have been the most exciting Deadline Day but all in all it was a very entertaining transfer window as a whole. Big transfer fees matched by bigger shocks. Chelsea and Tottenham were the biggest spenders with QPR practically buying a whole new squad. A full run down to the Transfer window will be up tomorrow with f00tballmatters’ verdict on how each club has done.
